“Fates Aligned, Bodies Intertwined” (from the back cover) is the perfect summarization of volume 4. Volume 4 has Xie Lian undercover a past injustice regarding heavenly ascension. He also uses the soul-shifting spell quite a few times.

The Reverend of Empty Words is still hunting the wind master. The question arises about how the monster is hunting the Wind Master when he is surrounded by a former martial god, Xie Lian, a Ghsot King, Hua Cheng, and the Earth Master. Is there an imposter? Or does this ghost have extreme power?

Xie Lian’s horrible luck makes him think that the Reverend of Empty Words will not be able to affect him. Thinking that, he continues to throw himself into trouble…much to Hua Cheng’s peace of mind. Hua Cheng continues to try and pull Xie Lian away from the conflict. I did wonder why he was so insistent that Xie Lian avoid a heavenly dispute.

Adding to the trouble, Mount Tonglu has opened! What does that mean you may ask? It means that all the ghosts are undergoing fluctuations in their power and their control. Tonglu only opens when a new ghost king is about to be chosen. These fluctuations create breaks into Hua Cheng’s control, a break enough that Xie Lian and Hua Cheng spend lots of time kissing (not that Hua Cheng remembers).

After dealing with the Wind Master and the Water Master, the Mount Tonglu reopening, Xie Lian also has to deal with an escaped divine item, the immortal brocade. A dangerous set of clothes that is hidden in plain sight. Ling Wen tasks Xie Lian and Quan Yizhen (the character that wanted to duel Xie Lian) with finding the item before it can do any damage. Hua Cheng is suddenly missing, but we are left with Lang Ying, the young bandaged boy. However, Lang Ying seems to have changed his character, acting very similar to Hua Cheng, but how could that be possible? Of course, Xie Lian eventually figures it out…Hua Cheng is masquerading as Lang Ying but only after having a bath in front of him?! Oops! Once the immortal brocade is found, a complication arises. Heaven’s Eye arrives to capture Hua Cheng!

Before we can deal with that, the immortal brocade escapes and the novel ends. Can’t wait to sink my teeth into Volume 5. What will happen with Mount Tonglu? What about Xie Lian and Hua Cheng’s kissing, will they finally start a relationship or will it take longer to crack their inhibition?
